Kings Get Rude Awakening

Well, that was considerably less fun than yesterday’s game. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that the Kings got embarrassed.

The Sabres are a really good team that I expect to see go far in the playoffs, but there were some very disconcerting things about tonight’s performance, not least of which is the fact that all 4 of the Sabres’ goals – and nearly a 5th that was called back because of a high stick – came from the slot. For a Kings team that prides itself on defense and on protecting home plate, that’s just unacceptable.

Still, I love the way the Sabres play: it’s aggressive, it’s opportunistic, and its relentless. Mix in a little creativity from Vanek, Leino and Adam, and a stellar goalie in Miller, this team is poised for a big year.

One of the things that was supposed to be a strength of the Kings this year was their depth. I’m a little concerned on that front, seeing as the 3rd and 4th lines have pretty much done nothing to this point, except be a liability.

Well, on to tonight’s grades:
